Today’s been a really exciting day! We port in Manaus tomorrow morning and boy am I excited! We’ve been at sea for such a long time and the anticipation has definitely been building up!
The Amazon River was gorgeous today! Almost the entire shipboard community was out on the deck tanning in the scorching Amazonian sun! It’s been such an awesome experience sailing up this river, I’ve gotten to see small villages, plant life, fish, birds, everything! This was my first time sailing on any river and I’m blown away at how massive the Amazon is. We sailed into the most incredible sunset and got to watch it vanish into horizon of trees.
We were fortunate enough to meet with some of the head staff from the US embassy here in Brazil. They came on board and have been giving us some great tips on the do’s and don’ts of Brazil.
Classes have been really interesting so far. Today we had a free day to catch up on reading and time to prepare for our trip in Brazil.
I can’t wait to get off the ship and start on my adventure in Brazil! We will be there for five days, so I will hopefully have a lot of time to see everything I would like to. I have some field excursions planned for the first two days, and then I would really like to venture into the Amazon and visit and Acai farm.
I am really going to try to find an internet…or as the Brazilian’s call it “cyber” café, so that I can finally post some pictures up of everything I’ve seen on my trip so far!
So stay tuned!
